Deacon Shepherds
At SPC, deacons are called to ministries of compassion, presence, and service. Each Deacon Shepherd cares for a “flock”—a small group of members—offering spiritual support, friendship, and help with practical needs like meals or transportation.
Ordained to this ministry, our deacons meet monthly with Pastor Gusti and each other to share learning, offer support, and grow in faith. Through a “Share the Care” model, they ensure that no one faces life’s challenges alone.

Share the Care Ministries
A variety of Share the Care ministries support the deacons in caring for our congregation, and respond to needs as they arise. Whether it’s meals, rides, or companionship during difficult times, or support of our youth and senior members, the Share the Care Ministries utilize volunteers from throughout the congregation to add a layer of care and comfort as we navigate through life’s joys and challenges together.
Meals and Rides
One of the simplest ways we can care for one another is by offering the comfort of a meal or the kindness of a ride when someone faces illness, loss, or can’t drive to an appointment. Our coordinator-led team of volunteers stands ready to respond whenever these needs arise.
Workshops and Educational Events
Life brings challenges to us all, and our church feels called to help one another meet them with wisdom and care. We periodically offer workshops on practical topics such as End-of-Life Planning, Living with Chronic Illness, Understanding Alzheimer’s, and Grief Support. These events give our congregation the chance to learn from experts and find guidance for life’s difficult seasons.
Sustained Care
When members with long-term health or mobility challenges, or those who live alone, need extra support, the SPC church family is there to help. Sustained Care offers regular visits, phone calls, and other assistance for those who request it—or whom we sense would benefit from ongoing connection. A team of volunteers is always ready to Share the Care during challenging times.
Young Adult Ministry
We love our youth and young adults, but once they graduate and move into college or work, it’s easy to lose touch. Our Young Adult Ministry bridges that gap by sending cards, notes, and care packages throughout the year—reminding them that their church family remembers and cares for them, wherever they are.
Prayer Shawls and Baby Blankets
A handmade shawl or blanket can bring warmth and comfort during illness or loss, and joy at the arrival of a new baby. Our knitters keep a supply ready so they can respond quickly when a need arises, through a deacon, the pastor, or another church member.
Support Group
In response to this era of uncertainty and loss for many in our congregation and community, we formed a Support Group as a place of refuge. Here, people can speak openly, find encouragement, and receive prayer and comfort. The group meets Tuesdays from 5:00–6:00 p.m. on Zoom. Contact the church office for the link and to join the email list.
SPC PrayerNet
A group of nearly 90 members prays regularly for joys, concerns, and needs submitted by our community. You're invited to share your prayer request through our PrayerNet form.
You may also call the church office at 304-876-6466 (M–F, 8 a.m.–2 p.m.).

Presbyterian Women
Presbyterian Women is an engaged, caring, and inclusive circle of women from the church and wider community. They gather monthly (September–May) for Bible or book study, prayer, food, and fellowship—usually on the first Thursday, 10 a.m.–noon, in the Fellowship Hall and via Zoom.
Presbyterian Women support both national Presbyterian offerings and local charities. Their ministry includes providing handmade prayer shawls to those facing loss or illness, and baby blankets to welcome newborns. The group closes each year with a June picnic.
Rooted in faith and service, they support the Presbyterian Women’s Purpose: to nurture faith, promote mission, work for justice and peace, and build community.
Men's Breakfast and Fellowship
The men of SPC periodically meet on Saturday mornings to share food and fellowship. If you’re interested in joining or helping to plan, please fill out the interest form.
