Shepherdstown Presbyterian Church installed a 60-panel solar array on the Church—the largest community-supported solar system in West Virginia. This project, and the way it has come about, could become a model for countless similar endeavors in small towns and large cities across both the state and the nation.
The Church had searched for several years for a way to produce its energy from clean, local power to protect our state’s air and water. This year, the Church, working with more than 100 families and businesses, and Shepherdstown, West Virginia, start-up Solar Holler, has pioneered a new crowd-funding financing model that allows any non-profit or community organization in West Virginia to go solar with no cost.
