Who, What, Where
The Kasai Christian Medical Institute, in the Central Kasai Province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, started as a high school level nursing school founded by Presbyterians in 1954.
It has since expanded to include the 160 bed Good Shepherd (teaching) Hospital that hosts medical interns and residents, the PAX poly-clinic in the city of Kananga, a university level nursing and lab school, a nutrition rehabilitation program and a research center.
What SPC has Done
SPC has donated over $11,000 to help build a Women’s Health Center as part of the PAX clinic, with maternity and surgical facilities and a medical staff to offer OB/GYN consultations. Donated funds include those that have gone into a living endowment, whose earnings will help to support operational expenses indefinitely.
