Participation Opportunities

Our church thrives because of volunteers! There are many ways to serve—on Sundays, throughout the week, and in our community.

Music

Sing in the Choir at the 11am service; Wednesday evening rehearsals, 7:30

Play in the Handbell Choir at occasional 11am services. Rehearsals are every other Wednesday, 4:30

Offer Occasional Special Music. Offer solo or group music, vocal and/or instrumental, during the service  

Children's Formation (11am Service)

All volunteers must clear a background check before engaging in direct contact with minors

Volunteer in the Nursery (Infant – K).

Teach Sunday Studio. Curriculum Provided. Circle preference, if any: K2, 3-5

Provide Snacks for Sunday Studio

Youth Group

All volunteers must clear a background check before engaging in direct contact with minors

Chaperone a Sunday afternoon Youth Group activity

Plan/facilitate a Sunday afternoon Youth Group Gathering (curriculum provided)

Provide snacks/meals for a Sunday afternoon Youth Group gathering

Chaperone Youth Mission Trip and/or retreat

Hospitality

Receptions. Assist with receptions (after services on special Sundays, memorial services and other special events)

Sunday Morning Coffee.
Be responsible for coffee and treats one Sunday a month
 

Annual Picnic. Help plan, execute, and clean up 

Annual Joy Gift Dinner. Help plan, execute, and clean up

Sunday Morning Worship Assistance (Both Services)

Times: 8:30am Early Service • 9:30am Sunday Seminar • 11am Worship 

Join the Sanctuary Guild. Set up candles, cloths, etc

Join the Communion Guild. Prep, set up, and clean up communion

Offer Readings selected by pastor

Usher. Greet visitors

Provide Backup Tech Support. Run A/V equipment (both services) when Lead Tech is unavailable 

Additional Adult Formation Volunteer Needs

Help Plan Spiritual Retreats

Lead, facilitate or support spiritual retreats

Help plan, facilitate, attend, or host supper group pot-lucks

Property Support

Serve on the Property Committee

Help with minor repair projects (light bulbs, painting, carpentry, etc)

Oversee contracts for HVAC, Cleaning, Snow Removal, etc

Maintain Gardens and Grounds (trim shrubs, weed gardens, mulch, sweep portico and walks, etc)

Provide Backup office support when Lynn is on vacation or sick

Communications

Serve on the Communications Team

Assist with updates and changes to the website

Serve as webmaster

Write Copy and Edit Weekly E-News

Write copy for the monthly newsletter, The Messenger

Work on Social Media (Facebook, Insta, etc.)

Develop promotional materials for SPC

Offer graphic design services

Worship Content Planning

Join the Advent Worship Planning Team (via Zoom) to consider themes and activities in worship for Advent, Christmas, and Epiphany

Join the Lenten Worship Planning Team (via Zoom) to consider themes and activities in worship for Ash Wednesday through Easter Sunday

Adult Education (Sunday Seminar - 9:30 a.m.)

Serve on the Adult Education Committee

Shape Content. Make recommendations for Sunday Seminar study material

Schedule Facilitators. Recruit/ arrange for weekly Facilitators

Facilitate. Lead a Sunday Seminar session (book/content provided)

Support Hybrid Participation. Operate Zoom/OWL technology so people can participate virtually

Congregational Care

Follow Up with visitors

Prepare a Meal for someone in the community

Offer transportation for someone in the community

Prepare snacks/reception offerings for funerals and/or weddings

Community Outreach

Prepare meal components for 1st Sundays community meal through Jefferson County Community Ministries

Serve the Community Meal, 1st Sundays through Jefferson County Community Ministries

Volunteer for a night with the Overnight Shelter (dates TBA)

Prepare a breakfast for the Overnight shelter

Work on Food Insecurity

Work on Systemic Poverty

Work on LGBTQIA rights

Chaperone LGBTQIA youth on safe space get togethers

Help research SPC history, with a focus on racial justice

Serve on the More Light Ministry Team (LGBTQIA+ mission and advocacy)

Help out at a Guns to Gardens annual event

Finance

Serve on the Finance Committee

Help with Financial Analysis, Budgeting, Financial Software

Review and Approve Checks

Prepare Payroll and Associate Tax Documents
